Obverse (image 1): the Cuban national coat-of-arms (shield with royal palm, key over the strait, and rising sun, backed by fasces and crowned with a Phrygian cap), flanked by an oak branch and a laurel branch, with the legend "REPÚBLICA DE CUBA" above and "UN PESO" below. Reverse (image 2): a large five-pointed star over a radiant/sunburst field, the legend "PATRIA O MUERTE" above and the date "1989" below.
