Compilation of "All Time Hits" of Cuban music. A 12-inch vinyl long-playing record (33⅓ rpm), with its printed cardboard sleeve. The front of the sleeve (first image) carries a vivid, psychedelic-influenced color illustration of a Cuban scene — a stylized woman and man, a son/trova ensemble of musicians with guitar, tres, maracas, and bongó/conga, a Ferris wheel, palms, tropical fruit, butterflies, birds, a radiant sun-face, and a rainbow — with the title "EXITOS DE SIEMPRE" and "Vol. II" lettered at lower right and left. The disc (second image) bears a red label with the "Guamá" script logo and the line "LA MÚSICA CUBANA ALREDEDOR DEL MUNDO / Producido y distribuido por EGREM, Habana – Cuba," marked "33 RPM," "LDG-2018," "CARA A," and the side-A track list. The back of the sleeve (third image) prints the full program for both sides with composers and performers, the EGREM/Guamá logo, "Estudios de Grabación: Egrem, Habana, Cuba," and the catalogue number LDG-2018. The sleeve is worn — edge-split, soiled, foxed, with handwriting and an ink stamp/mark at the upper corners. The disc shows surface/playing wear. EGREM was founded in 1964; its Guamá export imprint was launched in the 1970s (replacing the earlier Palma imprint) to market Cuban music abroad, which places this Guamá pressing most plausibly in the 1970s (possibly into the early 1980s). A Cuban LP issued by EGREM, the state recording enterprise founded in 1964 after the nationalization of the pre-revolutionary Cuban music industry (it absorbed the former Panart studio in Havana, renamed Areíto). EGREM held an effective monopoly on Cuban music production from 1964 into the late 1980s, and its catalogue is regarded as the most extensive archive of Cuban music. This release appears under Guamá, the EGREM imprint created in the 1970s specifically to commercialize Cuban music internationally (its label motto here, "la música cubana alrededor del mundo," reflects that export purpose); Guamá replaced the earlier short-lived Palma export imprint. The album is an anthology of classic Cuban popular songs ("éxitos de siempre") performed by canonical figures of the trova, son, danzón, and chachachá traditions — including the Trío Matamoros, Barbarito Díez, Abelardo Barroso, Ramón Veloz, and the orchestras of Antonio María Romeu and Enrique Jorrín, and featuring standards such as Moisés Simons's "El Manisero" and Jorrín's "La Engañadora."
