The recording dates from 1958 and was restored in 1974; the cover carries a 1980 Melodiya copyright and the disc the ГОСТ 5289-80 standard, dating this manufacture to 1980 (or shortly after). Originally recorded in 1958, this recording of Sviatoslav Richter's performance of "Pictures at an Exhibition," composed by Modest Mussorgsky, was restored in 1974 and then re-released in 1980. According to the liner notes, "a single train of thought unites these alternating 'pictures' into an integral whole;" the overarching theme is described as a "Promenade" through an art exhibit. Mussorgsky originally composed the piece in 1874, although it was published after his death in 1886. Place of Origin: USSR (Aprelevka); "Made in USSR."
