Clay Pendant with Stylized Anthropomorphic Face

Jewelry

Small oblong pendant of modeled and fired clay, glazed or slip-finished in a warm ochre/tan tone. The face is a stylized anthropomorphic/mask design with incised and black-painted details: a browband, arched brows, round raised eyes, a triangular nose, a bared-teeth mouth, and symmetrical stepped/scroll motifs flanking a central element on the lower half (suggesting arms, a beard, or feathering). Two suspension holes are pierced through the top for cord. Design draws on Pre-Columbian / Indigenous Andean visual style.

Pendant

Pre-Columbian

Belonged to María A. Arús caraballo

A wearable ornament in the Pre-Columbian-revival idiom — the elongated face with stepped/geometric elements recalls Andean (e.g., Chimú/Inca-style) iconography commonly reproduced in 20th-century tourist and craft jewelry across Latin America.
