The center is a fine, loose plain-weave fabric (linen or cotton) in cream/white, hemmed where it joins the lace. Surrounding it is a deep border of openwork crochet lace in ecru thread, worked in a fan/shell-and-mesh pattern with regularly spaced raised floral rosettes (puff/popcorn florets) and finished with a scalloped, looped picot edge at all four sides. Entirely handmade; the lace is symmetrical and densely worked.
