Black leather peep-toe ankle-strap sandals (Joya)

Clothing/Dress/Costume

Pair of women's open-toe (peep-toe) ankle-strap sandals in black leather. The forefoot is covered by two wide leather bands crossing in an X over the instep; a slim ankle/slingback strap with a small metal buckle on the outer side, and a curved, set-back high heel. Footbeds are natural tan leather, now heavily darkened and worn. The toe edge is rounded with a substantial sole. The sock lining carries the cursive maker's stamp "Joya," barely visible.

Belonged to Gertrudis Caraballo Gálvez

The crossed-vamp, peep-toe, slingback silhouette is a long-running mid-century evening-sandal form.
