"Ideal" Adult Toothbrush Carton

Object/Artifact

Long, narrow paperboard toothbrush carton, shown from its principal face and long top edge (closure type not determinable from this single view). The front carries a diagonally split ground of pale teal-green and cream, scattered with five-pointed stars (some filled, some outlined) and small dot clusters. A dark-navy horizontal oval cartouche encloses the brand "Ideal" in outlined script lettering. To the right are the product line "CEPILLO de DIENTES / para adultos" and the maker block "MINISTERIO DE INDUSTRIAS / EMPRESA CONSOLIDADA DEL PLÁSTICO Y GOMA / UNIDAD No. 207-01." The long top edge repeats the brand and product line.

Cuban post-1959 domestic consumer packaging. The Ministry of Industries (Ministerio de Industrias, MININD), created 23 February 1961 and directed by Ernesto "Che" Guevara until April 1965, reorganized nationalized industry into numbered "empresas consolidadas." The Empresa Consolidada del Plástico y Goma (Consolidated Plastic and Rubber Enterprise) was one such body, and "Unidad No. 207-01" designates a specific production unit within it.

Brand: "Ideal."

Date: circa 1961–1967 — the joint "Ministerio de Industrias" / "empresa consolidada" imprint places it in the consolidados era (MININD founded 1961; the consolidated-enterprise structure predominated until the ministry's 1967 reorganization), most likely the early-to-mid 1960s.

Cuba's Ministry of Industries was created on 23 February 1961, with Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara given responsibility for its direction; he held the office of Minister of Industries from 11 February 1961 to 1 April 1965. The ministry organized state industry through "empresas consolidadas," which reported within the Ministry of Industries and its consolidated enterprises during this period; the ministry's first phase ran until its 1967 reorganization into several industrial ministries — bracketing the imprint to circa 1961–1967.
